A Message from the MainStreet Director, John Woods, Ph.D.
Bringing Our Community Together Downtown
MainStreet Hammonton is a network of committed volunteers that use a proven approach to community revitalization. We have worked since 1993 to build a strong economic future for downtown and all of Hammonton. The program uses a grass roots effort to revitalize the heart of Hammonton. MainStreet Hammonton has helped to stimulate nearly $20 million in improvements to public and private properties downtown and to bring hundreds of jobs to our community. MainStreet helps the community leverage limited funds into significant improvements through grant funding and technical assistance. MainStreet has worked with community groups and elected officials to secure over $2 million in grants and public funding for our downtown.
It is rare when a small town like Hammonton can offer a downtown that is truly the heart of the community. It is our center of government and the place where things get done. It is home to schools, places of worship and the place where many of us work and shop. You can find locally owned stores and service from people you know. From antiques to zinc plated nails, or pet grooming to popcorn poppers, there is someone Downtown that either has what you need or can get it fast. You can find ethnic food and almost any professional service. As other towns try to create the image of a downtown, Hammonton has the real thing. Downtown is a vital and working downtown because of the tireless effort of the volunteers at MainStreet Hammonton .
During 2005 MainStreet Hammonton is committed to bring our community together downtown. The vitality of Hammonton depends on the cooperative effort of our entire community to revitalize and invigorate the entire town. Look for opportunities throughout 2005 to get involved as we work to reestablish a shared vision for our downtown. MainStreet Hammonton will be visiting with community groups and inviting residents to be involved in the revitalization of our town. MainStreet Hammonton will be sponsoring community workshops designed to give every voice a chance to be heard. Be a stakeholder. Be involved. Be a part of Hammonton’s heart. Be a part of this great effort to bring our community together Downtown.
Be a part of your town; look for these great Downtown events: |
